The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers will host Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division foe Albany State University at 6 p.m. tonight in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
The Lady Panthers (4-11, 3-9 SIAC) are coming off a 3-1 loss at Tuskegee on Friday in a match that was closer than the final score indicated.
CAU was down only two points in the first set – 19-17 – after a
Lauryn Terry kill. But Tuskegee scored six of the last nine points to win the set. The Lady Panthers led by as many as six in the second set, and was up 23-18 late in the frame.  But Tuskegee rallied by scoring seven of the next nine points to tie the set at 25-25. Tuskegee scored the final three points of the set to go up 2-0.Â
CAU roared back in the third set, leading 14-9 midway. Another Tuskegee rally tied the game at 16-16, and the lead went back and forth until they were tied 26-26. But kills by
Ashley Elmore and
Taylor Prude, along with a Tuskegee attack error, gave the Lady Panthers the set.
In the fourth set, CAU led 14-12, but Tuskegee scored the next seven points to take at 19-14 lead. It was a lead they maintained to win the set and the match.
Tonight, the Lady Panthers take on the SIAC East leader in Albany State, a squad that is 10-3 in conference play, 13-11 overall. In a meeting earlier this season on Sept. 19, the Lady Panthers lost a tough, five-set battle on the road, 3-2.
The Golden Rams have lost their last two matches, 3-0 to Auburn-Montgomery and 3-0 to Benedict, after having won six straight games before that.
