Lady Panthers Compete at Victory IceBreaker Duals

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University track and field team showcased impressive performances at the Victory Ice Breaker held at Berry College, marking their second meet of the season. With a series of standout individual achievements, the team continues to establish itself as a formidable competitor on the track.

Among the notable performances, Shynique McGee not only excelled in multiple events but also left her mark by winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.29 meters. McGee also placed 5th in the javelin throw and 6th in the long jump, demonstrating her versatility and skill across various events.

Jayme Redmond had an exceptional day as well, finishing 5th in both the shot put and hammer throw. Her toss of 41.26 meters in the hammer was just .09 meters shy of breaking the school record of 41.35 meters. Janih'ya Campbell and Morgan Graham also contributed to the team's strong performance, with Campbell securing 8th in shot put and Graham finishing 2nd in the long jump.

In addition to their field success, the sprinting events saw significant achievements for the Panthers. Genesis Washington captured 1st place in the 100-meter hurdles, while K'Maiyah Brown secured a commendable 8th place finish. Karon Warren dominated the 400-meter run, finishing first and Danielle Thompson was 7th. Thompson also contributed with a solid 6th place finish in high jump.

The most exciting moment of the day came from sprinter Jayla Kennedy, who set a new school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.89 seconds, breaking the previous record of 11.97 seconds. Her performance is a testament to the hard work and commitment that the team has put in during the preseason.

The women's 4x400-meter relay teams had strong showings, with the A team consisting of Genesis Washington, Morgan Graham, Jayla Kennedy, and Lailah Sellers finishing 3rd overall, while the B team comprising Jayda Brooks, Asia Nelson, Mariah Young, and Danielle Thompson came in 5th.

Clark Atlanta's Head Coach Dr. Carmellia Shivers-Cole expressed pride in her team's performance. "I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their dedication and hard work during this meet," she said. "They showed up ready to compete and put forth their best efforts. Setting new personal bests and school records is no small feat, and I am excited to see what this team will accomplish for the season." The Clark Atlanta University track and field team is poised for an exciting season ahead. Fans and supporters can look forward to even more thrilling performances from these talented athletes. The team will head to the Falcon Classic hosted by Montevallo University March 14-15, 2025.
