Lady Panthers Capture First Place at Morehouse Relays

Women's track and field totals 208 points in Morehouse Relays win

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University track and field team had an outstanding showing at the Morehouse Relays, capturing first place with an impressive total of 208 points. This remarkable performance allowed them to outperform several competitive programs, including Tennessee State, Albany State, South Carolina State, Barry University, Talladega College, Fisk University, and Voorhees College.

Under the guidance of Coach Dr. Carmellia Shivers-Cole, in her first year of coaching, the team exhibited exceptional talent and determination. Dr. Shivers-Cole expressed her pride in the team's achievements thus far, emphasizing that this is just the beginning and that there is still more to accomplish.

The meet was highlighted by stellar performances across a variety of events. Shynique McGee was a standout athlete, winning the Heptathlon with a score of 3732 points. She also excelled in individual events, placing 4th in the triple jump and pole vault, as well as securing 2nd in the long jump, where teammate Morgan Graham finished 3rd.

In the throwing events, Aliyah Jackson made her mark, finishing 3rd in the javelin throw, while Janih'ya Campbell (4th) and Elise Haskins (8th) also contributed to the team's success. The Clark Atlanta throws squad scored 90 points overall. Jayme Redmond topped the charts with a 1st place finish in the hammer throw, followed closely by Janih'ya Campbell (2nd). Dae'Janae Hannah placed 4th, with Brooklyn Lacy and Sydni Ellison-Muse finishing 5th and 6th, respectively.

The throwing team also swept the shot-put event, with Redmond taking 2nd, Campbell 3rd, Lacy 4th, Ellison-Muse 5th, and Hannah in 7th. In the discus, Dae'Janae Hannah secured 1st place, while Redmond finished 3rd, and Ellison-Muse and Lacy came in 5th and 7th.

Karon Warren displayed her speed in the 400 meters, finishing 3rd. Anniyah Williams placed 5th in the 100 meters and secured 2nd place in the 200 meters, with Jayla Kennedy coming in 3rd. Lailiah Sellers also had a strong performance, finishing 2nd in the 800 meters and 4th in the 1500 meters.

The relay events added to the excitement of the day. The 4x100 meter relay team came in 3rd, while the 4x200 relay team—comprising Graham, Williams, Warren, and Kennedy—set a new Clark Atlanta record with a time of 1:40.32. The 4x400 meter relay team, featuring Young, Graham, Washington, and Thompson, placed 6th.

In the 5000 meters, Zori Caldwell finished strong in 3rd place, while the sprint medley relay team (Brooks, Brown, Adams, Sellers) took home another 3rd place finish, adding to the team's point total.

With such a spectacular performance at the Morehouse Relays, the Clark Atlanta Panthers are energized for their next challenge. They will compete at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA, on April 4th and 5th. The team is eager to build upon this momentum and continue their success.
