Nineteen Clark Atlanta University football players will play their final game at CAU Panther Stadium Saturday when they host Fort Valley State University on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
It's the final home game of the season for the Panthers, who have also made Saturday a special Breast Cancer Awareness Day when they "Ball in Pink." Fans are encouraged to wear pink for Saturday's game.
The Panthers (0-7, 0-3 SIAC) are coming off a tough, 22-15 overtime loss to Savannah State last weekend during a steady rain at Panther Stadium. The same, wet weather system caused a time change at Fort Valley (5-2, 3-0 SIAC) last week, when they defeated Morehouse 37-21.
Rain is in the forecast again Saturday, though not as much as last weekend. It's important because Saturday's game features the SIAC's top two pass offenses and the conference's two bottom-ranked rush offenses.
FVSU's Slade Jarman leads the conference in passing with 268 yards per game, with an SIAC-leading 17 touchdown passes this season. His top two targets – Shemar Bridges and DeQuavious Walker – have combined for 56 receptions, 834 yards and six touchdowns in 2019.
The Panthers counter with senior
Charles Stafford, who has the second-most touchdown passes in the SIAC this season – 14 – and has thrown for 1,796 yards so far this season.
Jarman will face the SIAC's fourth-best pass defense Saturday, with CAU's
Johnny Sharp leading the conference in interceptions (three). The Panthers have only given up 162 passing yards per game this season.
The Panthers have two games left this season after Saturday's game, both on the road. CAU visits Benedict next Saturday at 2 p.m. before ending the season on Nov. 9 against Atlanta University Center rival Morehouse College, also at 2 p.m.
PANTHER NOTES: Last season, CAU held on a for a 21-19 win at Fort Valley. The win broke
a six-game, CAU losing streak to FVSU. The Panthers had last defeated FVSU in 2011, a 16-11 victory at home… CAU's
Terrance Harris continues to move up the SIAC's tackling category. He is now second in the conference in tackles for all games with 65, averaging 9.3 stops per game. Harris also leads the SIAC in fumble recoveries with four this season… Twenty-two FVSU players on the Wildcats' roster hail from metro Atlanta…
