Clark Atlanta Falls to Warner University on Saturday Afternoon

Panthers drop to 1-4 overall

ATLANTA, Ga. — Clark Atlanta University (CAU) fell to Warner University, 32-10, on Saturday evening at Panther Stadium.

With the loss, Clark Atlanta falls to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in SIAC play, while Warner University improves to 1-3 overall.

Clark Atlanta opened the game with a sack that resulted in a 10-yard loss. The remainder of the opening quarter featured a defensive battle, with neither team able to establish much offensive momentum.

Warner ended its first drive with a 37-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. The drive covered 60 yards over 14 plays. Following a three-play, minus-three-yard drive by Clark Atlanta, Warner added another score with just under a minute remaining in the first half to extend its lead to 10-0.

In the second quarter, Clark Atlanta got on the scoreboard when Cedric Oglesby connected on a 30-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining, cutting the deficit to 10-3.

With about one minute remaining in the half, Xzavier Jackson threw an interception that Warner returned for a touchdown, extending its lead to 17-3.

Clark Atlanta responded in the third quarter. With 38 seconds remaining in the quarter, Xzavier Jackson completed a pass to Kenyata Smith, resulting in a touchdown and bringing the Panthers within seven points at 17-10.

Warner answered immediately with a 75-yard touchdown pass, pushing its advantage to 25-10.

Warner added another touchdown during the final eight minutes of the game, scoring on a one-yard rushing play to extend the lead to 32-10.

Defensively, Eric Searcy led the Panthers with nine tackles. Offensively, Skyler Worthey led Clark Atlanta with two receptions for 33 yards, averaging 16.5 yards per reception.

NEXT WEEK

The Panthers will return to action next Saturday, October 3, at 2 p.m. when they travel to Columbia, South Carolina, to face Benedict College at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.
