Clark Atlanta Suffers Narrow Loss to Miles College

Panthers fall to 1-3 overall

ATLANTA, Ga. — Clark Atlanta (CAU) fell to Miles College (MC), 27-14, on Saturday evening at Panther Stadium in its second home game of the season.

With the loss, Clark Atlanta falls to 1-3 overall (SIAC 1-2), while Miles College improves to 1-3 and 1-2 in conference play.

Midway through the first quarter, Nicholas Teeter caught a 15-yard touchdown pass following a nine-play, 62-yard drive, giving Clark Atlanta a 7-0 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter and Teeter's first collegiate touchdown. Miles College made several rushing attempts but ultimately couldn't score in the first quarter.

Advancing into the second quarter, Clark Atlanta extended its advantage when Kelan Anderson took advantage of the momentum with a six-yard touchdown run, giving the Panthers a 14-0 lead, capping off a six-play, 49-yard drive.

A weather delay took effect shortly after, and Miles College responded with a touchdown coming out of the delay, cutting the deficit to 14-7 with 8:45 left in the second frame. Following the Panthers' three-play, seven-yard drive, Miles College's Anthony Mix completed a pass to Jaiden Jones for another touchdown, tying the game at 14 apiece at the 4:56 mark in the second quarter.

At the end of the half, Rourke Davis converted a field goal attempt from 34 yards, giving the Golden Bears their first lead of the game at 17-14 before heading into the intermission. 

Throughout the third quarter, the game remained steady with no major takeaways until Rourke Davis attempted a field goal from 44 yards, extending Miles College's lead to 20-14.
With just two minutes remaining in the game, Miles College's Anthony Mix scored on a 67-yard touchdown play, making the game score 27-14. 

Kelan Anderson led the rushing attack for CAU with 81 yards on the ground on 22 attempts for 3.6 yards per carry to pace the Panthers. On the defensive end, Eric Searcy led Clark Atlanta with nine tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble on the night. 

NEXT WEEK

The Panthers will host Warner University Royals next Saturday, September 26th, at 2 p.m. inside Panther Stadium.
