GAME NOTES: Football vs. Kennesaw State

ATLANTA, Ga. - For consecutive seasons the Panthers will end the season visiting a Division I opponent. Clark Atlanta will face Kennesaw State - having ended 2015 at FCS opponent Samford - for the 4th in-state road game of 2016.

With five wins in 2016, the Panthers have posted  the third 5+ win season since 1996. CAU went 5-5 in 2006 and 6-5 in 2008.

The Panthers enter the final game leading the SIAC in yards/G (353.9) and are the lone team in the conference to have eclipsed 3,000 total yards from scrimmage (3,185).

Clark Atlanta has found the end zone 28 times to lead the SIAC in touchdowns scored.

CAU leads the SIAC in passing offense having thrown for 2,364 yards (262.7/G) while leading in passing touchdowns (17).

The Panther offense also boasts and SIAC-best 165 First Downs (18.3/G). CAU has moved the chains 96 times via the pass (2nd place has 76).

Facing Third and Fourth Down, Clark Atlanta has been successful on 35.5% (44-for-124) and 36.8% (7-for-19) respectively.

Clark Atlanta has been called for 103 penalties covering 1,063 yards (118.1/G). CAU is penalized the highest yardage per game in Division II.

Johnathon McCrary is near the top of all the passing categories. The transfer from Vanderbilt averages 211.4 yards/G (2nd) and has a rating of 127.4 (3rd) and leads the SIAC with 14 touchdown passes.

Freshman Dre Martin and senior Trenton Earl take up two of the top spots in conference receiving numbers. Martin, from LaGrange, Ga., averages 3.9 receptions/G (4th) and is second in the conference tallying 71.6 yards/G. Earl, from Detroit, Mich., averages 3.6 (5th) receptions/G and is third with 69.8 receiving yards/G. Earl is responsible for 4.0 points/G for 4th highest in scoring by position players and is No. 29 in Division II averaging 19.63 yards/Rec.

Carlos Saldana, a freshman from Austell, Ga., is the No. 2 kicker in the SIAC having scored 45 points. Saldana is 8-for-12 on FG attempts and 21-for-23 on PAT's. His longest FG was a 42 yard kick in the third week of the season at Ft. Valley State.

Deandre Jackson, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., leads the SIAC in punt return average (7.8) and kick return average (26.4) while providing 103.2 yards of offense a game (4th in SIAC). His 703 kick return yards in No. 7 in Division II.

Jacob Mitchell, from Decatur, Ga., has made 81 tackles  for the 5th-highest total in the SIAC and has 13 tackles-for-loss, 4 sacks, and 1 interception in his senior season.

This is the first game in the series between the Panthers and the Owls. Kennesaw State is in the second season fielding a football team within the Big South Conference.
