Box Score Atlanta, Ga.---With 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, the visiting Concordia College Hornets stunned the Clark Atlanta University Panthers with a 22-17 victory at Panther Stadium Saturday.
The Panthers (1-3) who commanded a 17-point lead until the 9:04 mark when Concordia's Terrell Edwards-May put the Hornets on the board with a one-yard touchdown. A two-point conversion cut CAU's lead to nine points. While the Panthers offense could not get things going in the second half, Concordia shaved off eight more points on a 74-yard bomb from quarterback Imonni Carswell to wide receiver Jeremy Morris that trimmed Clark Atlanta's lead to one point, 17-16, with 5:42 remaining. The score tipped in the Hornets' favor down the stretch after Carswell connected with Patrick Austin for 38 yards that gave them the final advantage.
CAU jumped out early with a 14-point lead in the first half as Charles King found David Grace for a 39-yard touchdown on its first possession of the game. Jay Carter's 21-yard run extended the Panthers lead in the period. Clark Atlanta finished with 270 total offensive yards compared to Hornets' 255. Although the Panthers held Concordia to minus 11 rushing yards, Carswell recorded 229 passing yards while King had 157 yards. Defensively, CAU's Bernard Williams led the team with eight tackles including three for a lost and two sacks.
Clark Atlanta will host AUC rival Morehouse College at Panther Stadium next Saturday at 6 p.m.
