Box Score Atlanta, Ga.--While struggling offensively, the Clark Atlanta University Panthers was trampled 44-0 by the eighth-ranked Tigers of West Alabama in their season opener at home Saturday.
The Panthers managed only 78 total yards on offense while the Tigers garnered 455 yards inclduing 211 on the ground and 244 passing. West Alabama's running back Matt Williams accounted for 163 rushing yards and 236 all-purpose yards.
After taking a three-point led at the end of the first quarter, Williams put the Tigers up by 10 with one of his two rushing touchdowns. West Alabama conected with four more touchdowns in the second to extend its lead.
Linebacker Bernard Williams led CAU with 11 tackles while Vauchard Goodrdige added two sacks and three tackles for a loss. Next, the Panthers will travel to Lane College Saturday, Sept. 8, in a 2 p.m., match-up.
