CAU 2011 Football Signees to Have an Immediate Impact

Atlanta, GA- Clark Atlanta University Head Football Coach Daryl McNeill inks 15 signees as college football’s National Signing Day commenced on Wednesday. The group includes 13 high school standouts from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Florida and two college transfers whom the Panthers will look to for an immediate contribution in the 2011-2012 season to improve on its 4-6 record from last year.

“We have addressed some of our needs for the upcoming year, and we feel like we are off to a good start based on our first full year of recruiting,” said McNeill.

Darrin McPherson, a  5-10 standout from Jacksonville, Fla., is the most versatile player among the signees who is multi-talented on the offensive side of the ball.  College transfer, Bryan Mann, who presents great size and a strong arm, will be called upon to make a lot of plays from the quarterback position. Local signee Derryl  Rozier, considered to be the best offensive lineman among the Panthers signees, helped his Carver-Columbus squad to the semi-finals in the Georgia State play-offs last season. Another local product, Bernard Williams from Tifton County High School, is tagged as the best defensive signee at the Linebacker position who will also vie for a spot on special teams. As a senior, Williams played in the Georgia/Florida All-Star game.  Xavier Chepus, a 300-pound defensive tackle from Miami, will be a force to reckon with in the Panthers 4-3 defense.

CAU will look to add depth to its roster on both sides of the ball as the signing period continues.
