Lady Panthers Shine at J.D. Evilsizer Invitational: A Promising Season Opener

COLUMBUS, Ga. – On March 1st, the Clark Atlanta University Track and Field Team made an impressive debut at the J.D. Evilsizer Invitational, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exhilarating season for the Lady Panthers. Coach Dr. Carmellia Shivers-Cole expressed her enthusiasm about the team's performance, noting the substantial contributions from freshmen, transfers, and returning athletes. The collective efforts showcased the depth and talent within the Clark Atlanta University track program, signaling a strong start to the season.

The meet yielded numerous standout performances, with multiple athletes securing spots in the top eight of their events. Among them, freshman Jayda Kennedy made a significant impact by clinching victory in the 100 meters, tying the Clark Atlanta University record with a remarkable time of 11.97 seconds. Teammates Anniyah Williams and Morgan Graham also showcased their speed, finishing strong in fourth and eighth place, respectively.

In the relay events, the Women's 4x100 "A" team, comprising Kennedy, Mariah Young, Williams, and Graham, triumphed, taking home first place. The 4x100 "B" squad, featuring Isis Lewis, Asia Nelson, Malachia Abney, and Genesis Washington, also performed admirably with a fifth-place finish. The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Aniyah Adams, Jadyn Graydon, Lailiah Sellers, and Genesis Washington, finished in fourth place.

The distance events were equally thrilling, with sophomore Lailiah Sellers claiming third in the 1500 meters and Truth Reed finishing fourth in the 3000 meters. In the 800 meters, Sellers again shone, capturing seventh place against a competitive field.
In hurdles, Genesis Washington displayed remarkable skill with a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles, while K'Maiyah Brown finished shortly behind in fourth. Washington continued her success in the 400m hurdles, where she secured third, alongside Malachia Abney finishing fifth, Asia Nelson sixth and Brown finishing eighth.

McGee also excelled in pole vault, earning a commendable third place with a height of 7 feet during her first-ever pole vault competition.

The long jump featured Morgan Graham, who claimed second place with a jump of 5.25m, while McGee's personal best of 5.25 sent her to a competitive third place. McGee continued her success in the triple jump finishing first.
In shot put, Janih'ya Campbell placed second, with Jayme Redmond and Brooklyn completing the top eight in third and seventh place. The discus throw saw Dae'Janae Hannah achieve personal bests of 31.73m, earning second place, while Sydni Ellison-Muse and Elise Haskins contributed to the team's strong showing, finishing sixth and seventh.
