Mafo earns SWA Title in her first year

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Clark Atlanta University athletics and Director of Athletics Dr. Jerel Drew has announced that Head Volleyball coach Joelle Mafo has been elevated to CAU Athletics Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

"In her new role, Coach Mafo will lead the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and assist with strategic initiatives for the department and our athletic programs." said Dr. Jerel Drew "Her extensive background and commitment to excellence will provide the structure and guidance necessary to enhance our operations and support our student-athletes success. We are excited to welcome Coach Mafo to this important role and look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly make."

Mafo joined the Clark Atlanta University athletics department as the first full-time Head Volleyball coach in program history in March of 2023. In her first season at the helm, Mafo led the Lady Panthers to their first 20-win (21-10) season since 2013. She coached Shynique McGee to a First Team All-Conference selection.

"I want to thank Dr. Drew for trusting me and seeing in me the qualities of a leader. I am excited to apply everything I learned under previous SWA at other institutions and my own experience as a student-athlete to ensure a positive student experience for our Panthers."
