PREVIEW: Clark Atlanta Set to Open Season at Kentucky State

CAU and KSU Set to Meet in 2023 SIAC Labor Day Kickoff

ATLANTA (August 30, 2023) – Clark Atlanta University (CAU) football kicks off the 2023 season on the road against SIAC foe Kentucky State University (KSU) on Thursday (Aug. 31) inside Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. on HBCU+.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Thursday's matchup will be the 14th meeting of all time between Clark Atlanta and Kentucky State with the last faceoff taking place on October 12, 2019.
 
KSU leads the series 11-3 after taking down CAU 35-24 in their last meeting.
 
CLARK ATLANTA
 
Clark Atlanta looks to break a three-game losing streak that ended their 2022 campaign.
 
The Panthers head into Thursday's game with 10 seniors on the roster. Junior running back Daquon Kincey (Abbeville, Ala.) looks to retain his rushing title after leading the Panthers in rushing yards in 2022 with 870 yards from scrimmage. Another key returner for CAU is junior wide receiver Darren Stephens (Conyers, Ga.) who led all receivers in receptions (32) and yards (525). 
 
Sophomore transfer quarterback Andrew Banks (Atlanta, Ga.) was named starting quarterback for the Panthers during fall camp. 
 
KENTUCKY STATE
 
Kentucky State ended the 2022 season on a two-game losing streak after falling to Central State in a 31-30 heartbreaker to close out the year. 
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Clark Atlanta closed out the 2022 regular season with a nail-biting 20-17 loss to cross-campus rival Morehouse College (MHC) in the annual "Battle of the AUC" at B.T. Harvey Stadium. MHC scored six unanswered points in the final two minutes to escape with the win.

Despite the loss, CAU led Morehouse in total offense with 378 total yards.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
CAU returns home to face SIAC opponent Fort Valley State in their 2023 home opener on Sept. 9 at Panther Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on HBCU GO.
