Men's Basketball Announces the Signing of Nine New Members for the 2023-24 Season

ATLANTA, Ga. | Clark Atlanta University men's basketball coach has announced the signing of nine new members to the Panthers' basketball team for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

"In my first full year of recruiting, I wanted to hit the road and find guys to help us win now. More importantly, I wanted guys with high academic qualities and players who could potentially be ambassadors for our team on and off the court," said Head Coach Alfred Jordan when asked about this year's recruiting class. "With the nine guys we recruited, the biggest thing about them is that that all came from winning programs, which is big in the winning culture change we're trying to bring back to CAU."

Shemani Fuller, 6'8 Forward/Center

Shemani is a 6'8 forward/center transferring from NCAA Division I Western Michigan. Fuller is originally from the Bronx, New York where he played high school basketball at Cardinal Hayes High School.

"He [Shemani] brings a high level of intensity on both the offensive and defensive end. He plays above the rim and is an elite-level shot blocker who can really stretch the floor,' said Jordan when asked about Fuller's talent.

Xavier Griffith, 6'7 Forward

Xavier Griffith is a 6'7 forward from Athens, Alabama. Griffith spent the past two seasons playing for Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee. Griffith also received first-team all-conference honors during his time at CSCC.

"Xavier brings the ability to stretch the floor and dominate in the paint, which I felt we lacked in last season." said head coach Alfred Jordan.

Mason Matthews, 6'8 Guard/Forward

Mason Matthews hails from Maumelle, Arkansas where he played his high school basketball. Matthews spent his past two seasons playing for Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, Tennessee. During his time with the Saluqis, Matthews averaged 12.7 points per game during the 2022-23 season.

"Mason is a lights-out shooter. He brings his consistent shooting abilities to the table which is a great addition to the team. He [Mason] also plays above the rim and has the chance to become a fan favorite very quickly." - Head Coach Alfred Jordan

Navaughn Maise, 6'5 Forward

Navaughn Maise is a 6'5 transfer from NCAA Division II Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. Maise played his high school basketball not too far from CAU at Discovery High School. He competed in 28 games while starting in 16 for the Bearcats during the 2022-23 season.

"I think of Navaughn as a swiss army knife being that he can play the one through five while also guarding the one through the five. He has a very unique style of basketball that I believe the fans will love here at CAU. He [Navaughn] can definitely be the anchor to our defense." - Head Coach Alfred Jordan

Silas Mason, 6'7 Forward

Silas Mason is a 6'7 transfer guard from UNC-Asheville. Mason is a former ESPN Three-Star recruit hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina.

"Silas is a super athletic left-hander with great guard skills and the ability to play above the rim. He's [Silas] is definitely going to be the guy who guards the best player on the floor whenever he touches the floor for us." - Head Coach Alfred Jordan

Khyree Cayne, 6'10 Forward/Center

Khyree Cayne comes to Clark Atlanta from Georgia Highlands College. During his collegiate career, Cayne has secured three Defensive Player of the Year honors at his respective schools.

"It's hard to find guys on the division II level with the shot-blocking IQ that Khyree has. He'll definitely be a great rim protector for us. His skinny frame may fool you, but on the court, he plays bigger than any big we'll go up against this season." - Head Coach Alfred Jordan

Jalen Nesmith, 6'0 Guard/Forward

Nesmith is a Division I transfer from Jacksonville University where he competed in 19 games this past season.

"Jalen is a tough, gritty, New York City point guard who brings a lot of flash to the game but also plays great on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. I'm looking forward to him being the head of the snake this year." - Head Coach Alfred Jordan

Andrew and Elijah Stewart, 6'0 Guard

Andrew and Elijah Stewart both started their playing careers at Clark Atlanta before transferring to Morehouse College.

"The twins bring great confidence and competitive nature to the game. They have won at a very high level in the SIAC and bring a great deal of veteran experience to our locker room."  - Head Coach Alfred Jordan
