CAU Softball Set to Enter SIAC Tournament as No. 4 Seed in the East Division

ATLANTA, Ga. | The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its 2023 softball tournament seeding, with Clark Atlanta softball drawing the No. 4 seed in the East Division. The Lady Panthers are set to face No. 1 seeded Spring Hill on Tuesday, May 2, at 10 a.m. in the opening round.

Clark Atlanta finished the regular season with a three-game sweep of the Benedict College Tigers to finish with an overall 18-19 record and 10-12 in SIAC play.

As a team, the Lady Panthers registered a batting average of .299 with 288 hits on the season. CAU was led in hitting by junior Johannas Bentley with a team-high 44 hits and a .415 batting average. Bentley also leads the team in home runs with five on the year. Rachel Carroll is also having a strong season in the designated hitter spot with an average of .394 and 39 hits to add.

The Clark Atlanta pitching trio of Jayla Hill, Coreya Quarterman, and Ymari Blackmon have remained solid this season on the mound with Hill leading the way with a 6-3 record.

"One game at a time. We have the weapons to defeat our opponents, but we must realize our weaknesses and capitalize on our strengths. We are our own enemies, so if we shut down our weaknesses, our strengths will prevail. One body, one mind, one game at a time to win the SIAC Championship." said head coach Lawanda Pearson when asked about what she's instilling into the team before the tournament.

Clark Atlanta is slated to face Spring Hill at 10 a.m. at the Gordon Softball Complex on field two. Live stats can be found here.
