McGee Wins Women's Heptathlon, Lady Panthers Finish SIAC Championships in Second Place

ATLANTA, Ga. | The Clark Atlanta University women's track and field team finished the 2023 Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Championships in second place out of a field of 14 teams competing in the event. The Lady Panthers held the lead heading into day three with a 54-53 lead over Benedict. Shynique McGee highlighted the event with a first-place finish in the women's heptathlon 200-meter race on day one.

Benedict won the tournament with 190 total points while Savannah State finished in third with 102 points.

DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS

Isis Lewis got the ball rolling for Clark Atlanta on day one with a third-place finish in the women's high jump with a leap of 5.25 meters. Shynique McGee dominated the women's outdoor heptathlon with 3,484 total points in the event to finish first overall.

DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS

Naomi Andrews gained eight points for the Lady Panthers on a second-place finish in the women's pole vault with a 2.15-meter mark. McGee rounded out in the top three once again as she placed third in the women's triple jump on day two. Kaia Barnett finished the women's discus in fourth place (37.01m).

In the women's 100-meter race, Anniyah Williams rounded out the event in third place with a time of 12.54. The 4x400-meter relay team of Jayla Hartley-Scott, Kaylin Strahan, Karon Warren, and Anniyah Williams finished the race in second place with an overall time of 3:52.85 to take silver.

DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS

Naomi Andrews finished the women's high jump event in third place with a 1.60-meter leap.

Clark Atlanta women's track and field finished second out of a field of 14 conference teams competing in the postseason event. All final results can be found here.
