Clark Atlanta's Chris Martin has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Year, the conference announced Sunday.

Martin, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., was also named to the second team of this year's SIAC All-Conference Team.

In his first year with Clark Atlanta, Martin led the conference in scoring with 19 points per game, scoring in double figures in every game but two this season. Martin twice scored at least 31 points in a game – 33 points against Spring Hill in December and then 31 points against Fort Valley State in January.  He scored at least 20 points in a game 12 times this season.

Martin also led the Panthers in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game which put him in the conference's top ten rebounders. He had four double-digit rebounding games this season.  Martin led the SIAC in steals and was top ten in free throw percentage, assists, and defensive rebounds.  Martin was named the SIAC's Player of the Week in early January.

Martin leads the Panthers into the SIAC Men's Basketball Tournament Monday when CAU takes on Central State at 10 a.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
