As the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament is only 11 days away, every game is important fo the Lady Panthers (6-15, 5-6 SIAC). The Lady Panthers are in the fourth spot in the SIAC East race with four games to go, including tonight's game against Savannah State (22-1, 11-1 SIAC). CAU is looking to move into the East Divison's third place spot, which would mean the Lady Panthers would start tournament play on Tuesday, March 1 instead of Monday, Feb. 28. Albany State currently is just ahead of CAU in the third place spot.Â
Reagan Jackson leads the Lady Panthers in scoring this season, averaging 18.3 points per game. Jackson, who had 17 points in CAU's win over Albany State Monday, enters tonight's game only 49 points short of the 1,000-point career scoring mark. She has scored in double figures in every game this season except for one.Â
Corriana Evans has been an important newcomer for the Lady Panthers as she is second in scoring with 14.2 points per game and first in rebounding with 8.2 boards per game. Guard
Denise Stine is third in scoring and rebounding while
Kaia Barnett has been stellar as of late. She had 17 points and eight rebounds against Edward Waters and six points and 16 rebounds against Albany State.Â
They take on a team in Savannah State that hasn't lost in eight games, since Benedict beat them 74-65 on Jan. 22. That is also their only loss this season. They defeated CAU 92-57 on Jan. 17, Savannah State leads the SIAC East race by two games over Benedict.Â
Savannah State is led by Le'Andrea Gillis who averages 14.2 points per game while Bria Gibbs is pouring in 13.7 points per game and leads the team with 8.1 rebounds per contest. The Tigers have six other players who average at least seven points per game, including Azhana Maxwell (8.8 points per game) and Ta'Kyla Austin (7.9 ppg).  Â
After tonight's game, the Lady Panthers will visit Miles College on Monday and then play their final home game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 22 when they host Fort Valley State. CAU ends the regular season on the road at LeMoyne Owen on Thursday, Feb. 24.Â
