Lady Panther Close Out Regular Season with Road Loss at Kentucky State

Lady Panthers Start Prepartion for Post-Season Playoffs

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Clark Atlanta University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a significant rebounding deficit and a high volume of opponent free throws, falling 69-55 to Kentucky State on Monday afternoon at the William Exum Center. Despite shooting a slightly higher percentage from the floor, the Lady Panthers trailed for most of the contest as the Thorobreds controlled the pace.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Clark Atlanta struck early, taking a 6-4 lead midway through the first quarter (5:03). However, that would be their final lead of the game, as Kentucky State quickly responded and maintained control for over 38 minutes of game time. 
  • The Thorobreds capitalized on second-chance opportunities to build their advantage. Kentucky State pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, which directly translated to a 14-1 advantage in second-chance points. 
  • Turnovers heavily impacted the flow of the game for the Lady Panthers. Clark Atlanta committed 24 turnovers, allowing Kentucky State to generate 20 points off those mistakes. 
  • The game was ultimately decided at the charity stripe. Kentucky State drew frequent fouls and shot 75% from the free-throw line (21-of-28). In contrast, Clark Atlanta struggled to capitalize on their free opportunities, shooting just 52.4% (11-of-21). 
  • The Thorobreds pushed their lead to a game-high 16 points (69-53) in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter to seal the victory. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • J. Ellis paced the Lady Panthers offensively, finishing with a team-high 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, doing much of her damage at the free-throw line (7-of-11). 
  • B. Odiong was highly efficient in her 26 minutes of action, shooting 5-of-6 from the floor to tally 10 points while adding 6 rebounds and a team-high 2 blocks. 
  • A. Garner contributed a solid all-around effort with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. T. Bolton provided an additional spark with 8 points, including a pair of three-pointers. 
  • Despite the loss, Clark Atlanta shot slightly better from the field overall (34.5%) compared to Kentucky State (33.8%), but the Thorobreds utilized their rebounding dominance to take 10 more shot attempts (65 to 55).
