ATLANTA, GA. – Clark Atlanta could not get their momentum in a tragic three set loss to SIAC East Kentucky State. The Lady Panthers could not overcome the strong Thorobred offense led by Shaska Davis and Amaya Johnson that together racked up 30 kills for Kentucky State.
The Panthers started the first set strong with a block by
Jaelyn Williams, but Kentucky State pulled ahead 3 straight points due to a kill by Johnson and Panther errors. The set remained close holding a two to three point spread the entire set. Ultimately, errors got to the best of the Panthers with a service error followed by a hitting error ending with a 25-27 score.
The second set matched the energy of the first set with a close point spread until KSU took control of the set at 8-8 with a 6-2 run led by Johnson and Davis. The Panthers fought hard through the deficit to even the score at 17-17 due to a collective offensive drive by
Shynique McGee,
Jalen Dickerson and
Makayla Murphy. After fighting their way back, the Lady Panthers dropped the ball with two errors coupled with kills from Kentucky State ending the set 21-25.
Shynique McGee led the Panthers with 8 kills (.160), 8 digs and 2 aces.
Jaelyn Williams tallied 7 kills (.500) and 4 blocks.
Jalen Dickerson also scored 7 kills (.000) for the Lady Panthers.
Trenity Pender contributed defensively with 18 digs and a service ace. Freshman setter,
Sanaa Simmons earned 26 assists, 4 kills and 9 digs.
Clark Atlanta was not able to gain their momentum in the third set and allowed Kentucky State to make an 11-point run at 5-4. The Panthers fought back but could recover ending the crucial third set 21-25.
The Panthers return to their home court to battle Fort Valley State on Tuesday, October 4
th at 6:00 PM.
