It's a battle between two 1-1 teams as the Clark Atlanta University Panthers hosts Shorter University at noon at CAU Panther Stadium. You can listen to the game live at http://www.mountaincoastnetwork.com/.
Clark Atlanta is coming off a 35-26 loss to Lane College in the home opener last Saturday. After a slow start in that game, the CAU offense got a boost when
Shariif Brown came off the bench and threw for 141 and two touchdowns and leading the Panthers in rushing with 62 yards.
Brown will get the start at quarterback as CAU takes on a Shorter squad that lost 28-12 at Albany State last weekend. In two games, the Shorter defense has given up an average of 371 of offense, most of it in the air. Tim Walker leads them in tackles with 14 so far this season, with Kolby Reynolds adding 12 stops.
On offense, the Hawks' Aeneas Dennis has thrown for 403 yards and three touchdowns in two games, while Jaiden Dollard has rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns.
They'll be facing a CAU defense that is looking to get back to it's stingy ways that they showed off in the Panthers 13-10 victory at Livingstone to kick off the season.
Charles Crawford had eight tackles and broke up two passes against Lane last week, while
Tyler Wimberly and
Rodney Lewis each had seven stops. Wimberly also had two tackles for loss and a sack last week.
Today's game will be the first time the two schools have faced each other since 2016 when CAU's Johnathan McCrary threw a 48-yard touchdown with 1:13 remaining to give Clark Atlanta a 27-23 victory over the Hawks in Rome, Ga.
Three years before that, Shorter's Eric Dodson rushed for three TDs and threw two more as Shorter won over CAU 58-14.
CAU will be on the road the next two weeks, playing at Albany State next Saturday and then Tuskegee the following weekend. They return to CAU Panther Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 9 when they face Allen.
