Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Saturday the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers softball team had a tough time getting their bats going as they fell in both of a doubleheader to Savannah State University at Lady Panther Field.
The day started out wet as showers were still lingering over Atlanta. But that didn't stop four seniors for being honored on Senior Day –
Tatianna Kelly,
Elana Edusei,
Kehaulani Low and
Skylar Smith. The four were honored before the first game.
In Game 1, Judasia Blaylock had CAU's only hit in a 13-0 loss to the Tigers. Only two Lady Panthers reached base while five were struck out. Meanwhile, Savannah State broke open the game in the third inning with five runs including a homer by A Farrell. The Tigers added four more runs in the fourth, including another homer, this one by S. Robinson.
As the skies cleared for Game 2, CAU got into scoring position early with runners on second and third in the first after Edusei and Kelly worked walks early, and got a running on third in the second after
Sarah Colbert's double. They only trailed 2-0 heading into the third inning.
But Savannah State got their bats going again in the third as S Byers singled and eventually scored, and then in the fourth when the Tigers exploded for six runs on five walks and a hit batsman. They went on to win the second game 10-0.
The Lady Panthers close out the series today with another doubleheader, with the first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 1 p.m. at Lady Panther Field.
