The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers had six top-five finishes to earn a strong fifth-place showing in the Hilltop Relays hosted by Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Ala., this past weekend.
Of the 14 teams in the meet, the Lady Panthers were tied for fifth with Covenant College with 49 points. Emory University (185.5 points), Cumberland University (76.5) and Piedmont College (73.5) finished first, second and third. Tuskegee University was fourth with 60 points.
The Lady Panthers saw
Taylor Williams win the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.40 seconds, while
Amethyst Massaquoi finished fifth (18.13) and
Arianna Myrie was sixth (18.37).
Williams and Taylor were also part of the third place 4x100-meter relay team with
Kaylin Strahan and Myrie that had a 52.10 second run. Myrie was second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.46.
Strahan earned a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (13.14), while Williams was 15
th (13.87).
Adoris M. Gibbs was part of the 8
th place 4x400 meter relay team (4:43.19) with Strahan, Williams and Myrie, while also finishing 19
th in the 1500 meter run (6:46.16).
In the field events,
Ty'Tiana Lockhart had two top ten showings – a second in the javelin throw (35.21 meters), and seventh in the discus (30.04 m.).
Nikiyja Carter also had two ten placings, finishing 4
th in the shot put (10.70 meters) and eighth in the hammer throw (37.70 m.).
Leah Mitchell was ninth in the hammer throw (32.43 m.) and 15
th in the shot put (7.25 m.)
