Lady Panthers Visit Lane Monday

Just nine days ago, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers didn't have one of their best shooting days when they saw their two-game win streak derailed by an inspired Lane College squad 71-58 in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.

Tonight, they get a chance at redemption when they visit Lane at 5:30 p.m.

The Dragons had four players scoring in double figures on Dec. 4 and had two players pull down double-digit rebounds.   CAU also shot 34 percent from the floor, only hit two 3-pointers and just had single-digit field goal completions in each quarter.

Since that game, the offense has perked up for Clark Atlanta as the Lady Panthers shook off a sluggish first half to nearly knock off Clayton State 85-83 on the road and lost a late lead in falling to Miles 66-62 on Dec. 9.

Reagan Jackson has continued to lead the Lady Panthers in scoring, pouring in 17.7 points per game this season, including 26 points at Clayton State and 19 against Miles.  Jackson has scored in double figures in every game this season while also averaging 3.4 rebounds per game.  Sophomore Corriana Evans has come up big for CAU, scoring in double figures in each of the last five.  Evans, who was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's women's basketball Newcomer of the Week last week, leads CAU with 6.1 rebounds per game and has grabbed 22 boards over the past three games.

Lane didn't sustain their momentum after their win at CAU last week, falling to Fort Valley State 59-56 on Saturday, Dec. 11.  Lane let a six-point lead with just over three minutes remaining get away from them as they were outscored 13-2 the rest of the way.

Lane's forward/center Kayla Simmons, who was named the SIAC's Player of the Week last week, had 13 points and eight rebounds in that game, while their only other double-figure scorer that day – Brailyn Tate – had 13 points and 11 boards.  Simmons had 12 points and ten rebounds against CAU, while Itasha Paty had 11 points and ten boards.

Thursday, the Lady Panthers return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium for the first of two doubleheaders.  That night at 6 p.m. they host Tuskegee and then on Saturday, Dec. 18, they close out the semester with a 2 p.m. contest against Spring Hill.
