CAU Gets Back on the Court at Lane Today

It's been more than two weeks since they've played a game, but the Clark Atlanta men's basketball team will be back on the floor tonight when they visit Lane College in Jackson, Tenn., at 7:30 p.m.

The Panthers (3-4, 0-1 SIAC) last played on Nov. 29 when they defeated Kentucky State 92-79.  It continued a trend in which the Panthers have won this season whenever they have scored 92 or more points.

Chris Martin continues to lead the Panthers in scoring with 18.7 points per game. He had 29 points in that Kentucky State victory, along with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Jalen Williams is also scoring in double figures with 14.2 points per game, as is Justin Longstreet (13.3 ppg) and Shannon Smith (11 ppg).   Martin also leads the Panthers in rebounding with 8.5 boards per game, followed by Williams' 6.5 rebounds per game.

Tonight, they take on a Lane team that has won three straight, having defeated Alle n on Dec. 1, Fisk on Dec. 7, and Fort Valley State on Dec. 11.   They are 4-0 at home this season.

Kelvin Allen's 15.1 points per game leads the Dragons, scoring 14 against FVSU and 24 against Fisk.  Justin Sylver, Maximillion Bell and Anthony Mason all score around nine points a game, while Sylver leads then in rebounding with 6.8 per game.

Since 2018, the Panthers have been pretty successful against the Dragons, going 4-0, though three games were decided by four points or less.   In their last matchup, CAU defeated Lane 74-71 in December 2019.

The Panthers return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium this week with two games to end the semester – Thursday, they host Tuskegee at 8 p.m. and Spring Hill on Saturday at 4 p.m.  Both games are part of doubleheaders that begin with the Lady Panthers tipping off two hours before the men.
