Saturday, the Clark Atlanta Panthers are back on the floor after the Thanksgiving break to take on Central State University at approximately 4 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium. The men's game immediately follows the Lady Panthers' 2 p.m. matchup with Central State.
The Panthers (2-3) are coming off splitting two games in the Clayton Sate Classic last weekend. CAU defeated home-standing Clayton State 94-89 but then lost the next day to Georgia College 77-48.
Chris Martin leads the Panthers in scoring so far this season, putting up 16,4 points per game, while
Justin Longstreet (15.8 ppg) and
Jalen Williams (15.2 ppg) are averaging just over 15 points a game.
Shannon Smith is also in double-figures, averaging 10.2 points per game. Martin is also the team's leading rebounder at 8.6 boards per game, while Williams is at 5.2 rebounds per game.
They take on a Central State team that is 2-1 so far this season, but lost their first game Tuesday, 81-65 to a Salem University team that's only lost one time in five games.
Freshman Raymon Adams is their leading scorer as he averages 14.7 points per game and grabs 8.3 rebounds per game. Orion Monford (13.7 ppg) and Brad Lewis (11.7 ppg) are their three double digit scorers.
The series with Central State has been a good one for Clark Atlanta in recent years. CAU hasn't lost to Central State since November 2013, winning seven straight games since then, the last win coming in the 2020 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C. CAU won that March 5, 2020 quarterfinal game 83-77 in double overtime.
