The Clark Atlanta University women's tennis team goes a short distance from campus this afternoon for a road game on the other side of metro Atlanta when they visit Division I neighbor Georgia State at 4 p.m. on Georgia State's Clarkston campus.
The Lady Panthers (6-3, 5-1 SIAC) will be looking for their first victory after a close 4-5 loss to Berry College last weekend and a 5-2 loss to Benedict College in their final match of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Round-Up in Columbia S.C. in February.
The loss to Benedict ended Clark Atlanta's 19-match conference winning streak that dated back to 2018.
But the defending SIAC champions, featuring the reigning SIAC Player of the Year
Akilah Parker, remain one of the top teams in the conference.
Vanessa Eusebio is 8-1 in singles matches this season, while
Alexis Fletcher has seven singles victories, and
Saran Lloyd and
Shani Idlette have each won five.
The doubles team of Idelette and Parker is 8-1 this season.
It's the home opener for Georgia State (2-8) of the Sun Belt Conference. The Panthers have struggled this season, losing seven of their last eight matches, including the last five in a row.
Eva Chivu leads GSU with a 9-7 overall singles record so far this season, while Damira Muminovic has won also won nine singles this season, including seven of her last ten. Chivu and Angel Carney lead them in doubles.
After today's match, Clark Atlanta is off until Friday, March 20
th as they get back into conference action when they host Tuskegee at CAU Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
