The Clark Atlanta University Athletics family lost a loved member in August, student-athlete Kevin Williams, class of 2020. Williams was a valued member of the CAU football squad, playing defensive back for the Panthers in 2018 and 2019.
The Pompano Beach, Fla., native who attended Ely High School had 30 tackles, a sack and an interception for the Panthers. Williams finished his CAU career with a total of 43 tackles, 32 of them solo. And in May, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.
Williams' CAU football family of coaches and fellow players have many great memories of their Panther teammate:
Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach Darius Buck:
"Kevin was the guy that brought energy to the room in the morning when the rest of the guys didn't feel like practicing. He also was the guy that brought me Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast after a morning practice, his good heart and energy will be missed by all of us."
Defensive Back Alex Philpot:
"I remember it was a road game, against Kentucky state, Kevin and I roomed together, for that game . We stayed up talking throughout the night. I specifically remember Kevin telling me, 'Enjoy this football stuff while you can, because when it's over, it's over. You can't relive it, so take advantage of your opportunities right now.' I still carry that with me everyday."
CAU Head Coach Tim Bowens:
"Kevin was the one CAU student-athlete that I had known the longest. We recruited him when he was in high school at Blanche Ely, when I was at another university. When I first arrived on campus here at CAU, he said, 'Coach, I remember you,' and then he pulled out his phone and called my old personal cell. Kevin had many ideas and was always trying to better his craft on the field. I wished he could've taken his determination further in life. One of the most proud moments for him was when he graduated and all he said to me was, 'I told you I was going to get it done.'"
