The Clark Atlanta University Panthers are on the road this weekend, heading to South Carolina to take on Allen University at 5 p.m. The game will be played at Fairfield Central High School in Winnsboro, S.C., just north of Allen's campus in Columbia.
The Panthers (0-1) are coming off a 24-13 loss to Livingstone last week, but get several players back this week after they were injured or not available in the season-opener. Allen, 2-6 in 2018, opens their season. In the two schools' first-ever meeting, CAU jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead before winning 31-6 last season at CAU Panther Stadium.
This season's Allen squad features a number of new players, including quarterback Noah Shoeman who will start for the Yellow Jackets. Shoeman threw for 2,527 yards and 21 touchdowns for College of Desert (Calif.) last season. He passed for a season-high 537 yards and five touchdowns in their 2018 opener.
CAU's
Charles Stafford threw for 154 yards last week against Livingstone, only the second time in his last five games in which he passed for less than 194 yards.
Panther Notes: After debuting a new uniform of new black pants, jersey and helmets, the Panthers will again sport new uniforms on Saturday. Along with the new black matte helmets, the Panthers will be in new white Nike jerseys and pants… In last year's game, CAU only allowed Allen 74 yards of offense in the first half and forced five punts in seven series. The other two Allen series ended with an interception and a turnover on downs…. The Allen football program was restarted last season after it was shuttered in 2005… After Allen, CAU has two consecutive home games against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes – Sept. 21 against Central State, and Sept. 28 versus Albany State.
