Box Score 3 The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers softball team won one of three games this weekend in a big weekend series at Benedict College.
The Lady Panthers (10-15, 6-6 SIAC) are tied with Benedict (13-17, 6-6 SIAC) for second place in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division race, behind Albany State who is 9-2 in conference play.
Friday, CAU jumped out ahead of Benedict 1-0 in the second inning after
Keshonna Terrell reached on an error and was driven by
Chase Gray-Still who singled her in. But the Lady Panthers only mustered three more hits and no runs, while Benedict had a four-run fifth inning as the Lady Panthers fell 4-1 in the series' first game.
Saturday,
Tatianna Kelly was 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs to lead CAU to a 15-6 victory in the first game of a doubleheader. CAU had six runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth to take the win. Terrell also homered and added a double with four RBIs for the Lady Panthers.
Laterria Jones singled and drove in two runs while
Cailla Williams also had two hits and an RBI. Pitcher
Skylar Smith also got her fifth win of the season.
In the final game of the series, the Lady Panthers led 4-1 after three innings where they had two runs in the first and third innings. But Benedict got four runs and four hits in the bottom of the third, and then five runs on four hits in the fourth to take a 14-5 victory. Terrell singled and drove in two runs while Jones and Smith each drove in runs. Williams had two hits, including a double, for CAU.
Next up for the second-place Lady Panthers is a three-game matchup with SIAC East leader Albany State in Albany, Ga., next weekend.
