Reagan Jackson had 22 points, including a big 3-pointer late in the game that helped propel CAU to a 62-59 victory over Saint Leo Thursday in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
The Lady Panthers (1-2) had trailed 54-52 when Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 2:18 remaining to put them in the lead at 55-52.
A minute later, Saint Leo (1-2) managed the tie the game at 57-57 when Alex Button hit one of two free throws. But the Clark Atlanta got two free throws from
Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell to put the Lady Panthers up 59-57 with 52 seconds remaining.
After CAU's
Autum Morings blocked an Amanda Ulrich shot, Jackson was fouled with just under 22 seconds left. She hit one of two free throws to extend the CAU lead to 60-57.
Saint Leo got to within one at 60-59 with 5.6 seconds remaining Casey O'Shaughnessy hit two free throws after getting fouled by Jackson.
Naomi Holloway was then fouled with 3.8 seconds left, but hit two free throws that sealed the victory.
Jackson had 22 points, while Mitchell finished with 14. Morrings added nine.
Alani Gallagher led Saint Leo with a game-high 23 points.
The win was also the first as a head coach for Clark Atlanta's
Tony Bailey. Bailey had been the Lady Panthers' assistant coach the past two seasons before taking over the program this year.
Clark Atlanta will be on the road Saturday when they take on Lee University, a team that is 3-0 and ranked No. 14 nationally.
