Jamal Pollydore Leads Four in Double-Figures As CAU Wins Tenth Straight, 87-60 Over Albany State

Box Score Jamal Pollydore's 23 points led four in double-figures as the Clark Atlanta University Panthers won their tenth game in a row, 87-60 over Albany State University in Albany, Ga., Saturday.

The Panthers are now 15-1 this season, 9-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Albany State falls to 1-15, 1-7 in conference play.

Clark Atlanta led throughout, jumping out to an 11-point lead three times in the first half. The Golden Rams closed the gap to three – 40-37 - on two free throws just after the second half started.  But a 13-4 Panthers run, finalized by an Akil Douglas dunk with 15:35 remaining, gave them a 53-41 lead to hold off Albany State.  CAU's lead grew to as many as 29 points after Pollydore's 3-pointer made it 87-58 with 37 seconds left in the game.

The Panthers hit 50 percent of their shots on the day and hit 14 3-pointers. Pollydore was 6-of-6 from the 3-point stripe.

Pollydore finished with 23 points, hitting 7-of-10 field goals, and had four rebounds, two assists and a steal.  Michael Vigilance came off the bench to hit 8-of-10 shots, along with both of his 3-point attempts, to finished with 18 points.  He also grabbed 12 rebounds and had a block. Douglas had 14 points, four rebounds, an assist and a block. Shelvick Henry Jr. added ten points, five rebounds and an assist. Anthony Williams dished out a career-high 12 assists, scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Albany State was led by Tylen Walker's 22 points.

"I thought we played a complete game," said CAU Head Coach Darrell Walker.  "We were able to get up and down the court. And we held Albany State to 60 points, which I thought was a pretty good defensive effort.

"I thought our bench play was unbelievable," he said.  "I thought Big Mike played well off the bench with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and then Shelvick had ten points.  So our bench really gave us a nice lift tonight. And Jamal played well, leading our starters.  Tonight definitely made me feel good."

The Panthers have a short turn around as they head back down to central Georgia to take on Fort Valley State Monday night.
The Wildcats are 9-10, 6-5 in the SIAC, and nearly pulled off a big upset Saturday in falling to Morehouse 72-70.

"It's one game at a time," Walker said. "We have to handle Fort Valley State.  They lost to Morehouse by just two points, so it's going to be a good game. They play us well down there. We've got to get prepared and get ready."
