Box Score Columbia, S.C. --- The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers took the field at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball Championships Friday morning against Fort Valley State knowing that if they were unable to come away with the victory their season would be coming to an end. Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, that became reality as they fought their hardest but dropped the contest 8-2.
The two teams entered the bottom of the second inning with no score on the board as the Lady Panthers, playing as the visitor after losing the opening coin toss, took the field. Fort Valley would push one run across the board in their half of the inning, but Clark Atlanta would put a run of their own up in the top of the third to tie the game back up.
The bottom of the third inning would not be kind to CAU as FVSU would put two more runs on the board, and would add three more in the fourth to push their lead to 6-1. The fifth inning would see very little offense, as the Lady Panthers headed to the top of the sixth inning knowing that they needed at least five runs to keep their hopes alive.
Sharnitra Woods would try to kick start the team as she blasted a solo home run over the center field wall in the top of the sixth, but that would be the only offense they could muster, and would also be their only hit of the game.
The Lady Panthers finished the season with an 11-29 record, but with no seniors they will look to improve on the strides they made this season as they head into next season.
