Lady Rams Steal Two From Lady Panthers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga. --- The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers had high hopes as they hosted the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams in a softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, but the visitors from North Carolina were in no mood for losing, beating CAU 12-1 and 7-2.

The first game of the day saw WSSU jump out to an early 3-to-0 lead in the top of the first inning, which would prove to be enough for them to get the victory in the end, but they added a few more runs for good measure. Zhandria Usher would provide the offense for the Lady Panthers with a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing freshman Shalonda Woods across the plate. Veranae Woods pitched a complete game for Clark Atlanta, striking out one along the way.

Game two saw a much closer game, but unfortunately for CAU they were unable to earn the final advantage on the scoreboard. The Lady Rams jumped out to a 5-to-0 lead after the top of the first, and led 7-to-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, where the Lady Panthers were able to put two across the plate. Usher once again provided the spark, with an RBI single, and Sharnitra Woods would add RBI single in the next at-bat. KaShaira Givens pitched a complete game for CAU, getting one strike-out in the contest.

The Lady panthers (0-13) will return to action for their third home doubleheader in three days, as they host Edward Waters College at Panthers Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
