Lady Panthers' Season Ends in Conference Tournament

Box Score Birmingham, Ala. --- The Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers had high hopes entering into their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Basketball Tournament matchup with the Stillman College Lady Tigers, but luck would not be on their side as they fell to SC, 74-63. Mykala Jones had a game-high 29 points for CAU, but unfortunately she was the only one able to get to double-digits for the Lady Panthers. Angel Mitchell dropped 18 points for the Lady Tigers in the victory.

The Lady Panthers (9-16) had a hard time getting their shots to fall in the game, shooting just 29.7% (19-of-64) in the contest, while Stillman was able to manage 42.9% (24-of-56). Ealry foul trouble for a couple of key players, combined with the inability to get their shots to fall, proved to be a combination that was just too much to overcome down the stretch.

Despite their shooting woes, Clark Atlanta led for much of the first ten minutes of the game, and with just 2:53 remaining in the first half, trailed by only one. However, then the Lady Tigers would go on a 14-to-3 run to end the first half, giving them a 12-point lead at the break, one that proved to be too much for the Lady Panthers to overcome.

Season Recap

The Lady Panthers finished the season with a 9-16, including a 5-12 SIAC conference record. The season was very much like a roller coaster for Clark Atlanta, as they went 4-6 in their first 10 games of the season, only to go 4-1 in their next five. An eight game losing streak would soon follow, adding to a 1-9 record over their final 10 games of the season, including Tuesday's loss to Stillman College.

Despite the ups-and-downs, the Lady Panthers had a number of big wins on the season, including a win against the same Stillman team that ended their season back in January, winning 84-76. Soon after they would travel to Claflin University to take on a CU team that had been regionally ranked as recently as two weeks before the matchup, but the Lady Panthers would prevail on Claflin's home court, 75-64.

Clark Atlanta is losing two key players from this season, as seniors Denissea Law and Iyana Spatcher will move on. Looking forward to next season, the Lady Panthers hope that the youthful inexperience that hurt them at times this season, gives them the advantage as their players get used to playing with each other, and within the system.
