Box Score 3 Atlanta, Ga. --- The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers hit the road this past weekend coming off of a mid-week split with Talladega College, looking to improve their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) positioning as they faced off with the Lady Rams of Albany State University. Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers (5-25, 2-10 SIAC), they were unable to find the success that saw them win four of their last seven games, as they dropped all three to the Lady Rams, 6-3, 14-2, and 5-0.
Â
Game one saw a tight game through four innings, as Albany State led 1-0 with CAU coming to bat in the top of the fifth. A Briana Aldridge RBI-double would plate the Lady Panthers first run of the game, with Aldridge scoring soon after on an error to give Clark Atlanta a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Rams would have an answer however, as they put five on the board in their half of the inning to give them a lead that they would not relinquish.
Â
Veranae Woods pitched a complete game for Clark Atlanta, as Aldridge finished with two RBIs for the game.
Â
The two teams were right back at it Saturday afternoon as they took the field for the second half of the doubleheader. By all accounts, the Lady Panthers had a game that they would all like to forget about. Once again, the home side scored first with one run in the bottom of the first inning, but Clark Atlanta wouldn't waste time answering, as Zhandria Usher singled to begin the second inning, and then advanced all the way around the base paths thanks to some timely pitching errors.
Â
This would be about the extent of the offense for the Lady Panthers, as they added one more run in the top of the third thanks to a Tenicia Winston RBI-triple, however at this point CAU would already be down 8-2, and the Lady Rams would add four more runs in the bottom of the third as they cruised to the victory.
Â
KaShaira Givens pitched all four innings for Clark Atlanta in the loss, while the offense as a whole was only able to provide two hits to help her out.
Â
Sunday brought a new day and new hope for CAU as the two teams squared off in the third and final game of the weekend, but the results would be the same much to the chagrin of the Lady Panthers. Once again, the team was only able to manage two hits against their SIAC foes, as Albany State (12-17, 10-2 SIAC) earned the victory.
Â
Woods once again pitched the complete game in the loss for the Lady Panthers.
Â
The team gets a much needed break from competition this week, not taking the field again until April 7
th, as they travel to Talladega, Alabama, to complete the second round of the home-and-home series with Talladega College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm (CT).
