Box Score Atlanta, Ga. --- For the second time in three days the Clark Atlanta University Panthers used a late run to earn the victory over a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe, beating Claflin University 67-62 on Saturday night. Cornell Barnett was a force to be reckoned with for CAU, finishing with a game-high 27 points, while Patrell Rogers led CU with 14 points.
The Panthers (5-16, 4-10 SIAC) faltered early as they fell behind 14-3 just six minutes into the game, but would whittle away at the lead over the remainder of the frame as they took a one point lead into halftime. The visitors form Orangeburg, South Carolina would once again start out hot in the second half as they opened up an early seven point lead, the biggest lead either team would hold the rest of the way.
With 2:22 remaining, and down by three, the Panthers of CAU would go on a 10-2 run to finish out the game and earn their second straight victory in Epps Gymnasium.
Barnett, who was playing in his first game since December 4th, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while going 5-of-7 from three-point range.
Clark Atlanta will look to extend their two-game winning streak as they hit the road to take on Paine College (February 12th, 7:30 PM) and Benedict College (February 14th, 3 PM). They will return home on Monday, February 16th, as they take on Albany State University on "Senior Night," with tip-off scheduled for 8 PM.
