Late Rally Earns Panthers the Victory

Box Score Atlanta, Ga. --- Despite only leading the game for a total of just over three minutes, the Clark Atlanta University Panthers were able to come away with the victory in Epps Gymnasium Thursday night, besting the visiting Wildcats of Fort Valley State University, 88-84. Najee Whitehead once again led CAU in scoring with 22 points, while Tyrone Brinson recorded 27 in the loss for the Wildcats. The win moves Clark Atlanta ahead of Fort Valley in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) standings.

The Panthers (4-16, 3-10 SIAC) trailed by as much as 15 in the first half, but were able to narrow the visitor's lead to nine at the half. A 6-to-2 run over the first three minutes of the second frame brought the FVSU lead to a manageable amount for CAU, however the Panthers would not be able to take the lead for another 10 minutes.

With just under three minutes remaining in the game, Fort Valley held a four point lead. Led by Derek Harper's four strait points, the Panthers finished the game on an 8-to-0 run to come away with their first victory in 10 games.

Clark Atlanta will look to build on this success as they play host to Claflin University on Saturday, February 7th, at 8 PM in Epps Gymnasium. CAU will be looking to get revenge after falling in the "Battle of the Panthers" to CU 72-67 on the road just two weeks ago.
