Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga. --- Thanks to mother nature, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers have had all of their previously scheduled home games this season postponed, but hopes were high as they took the field Saturday afternoon in the first games at Panthers Stadium this season. Unfortunately for them, the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats had other ideas, beating CAU in both games, 7-0, 12-3.
In game number one the visitors jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the third inning and would get a solid pitching performance from Alexis Ricks, pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts, while allowing only five CAU hits. Ricks would help her own cause at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double. Sophomore Jessica Vason would lead the Lady Panthers attack going 2-for-2 with a walk.
The second game started out a little closer, but ultimately would have the same result for Clark Atlanta. The Wildcats would quickly score two-runs in the top of the first inning, but would be soon matched by two-runs for the home squad in the bottom of the second. A 10-to-1 run advantage over the final five innings would blow the game open for FVSU as they cruised to the win. Ricks once again had a solid pitching performance, this time in relief as she took the mound in the fourth inning. She would once again help her own cause as she hit a three-run home run and Kenya Shakoo added a two-run home run for Fort Valley. Three different Lady Panthers recorded an RBI in the contest.
The two teams will take the field again at Panthers Field on Sunday at 12 pm with the Lady Panthers looking for revenge.
