Lady Panthers Fall in Conference Home Opener

Box Score Atlanta, Ga.---To open conference play, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers fell 60-57 to Lemoyne-Owen College at Epps Gymnasium Saturday. In the first game back from the holiday break, it was the first of two Southern Intercolleagiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home match-ups for the Lady Panthers. After trailing 34-27 at halftime, CAU slowly chipped away at the lead and knotted the game at 57 with under one minute remaining. A couple of missed opportunities at the basket down the stretch including a three-point heave as time expired left the Lady Panthers staring at their first loss to open the conference season. Senior Iyana Spatcher led Clark Atlanta with a team-high 14 points followed by Mykala Jones who poured in 11. Lemoyne-Owen's Latrice Sears recorded a game-high 14 boards as the Lady Magicians dominated the glass 49 to 30 though CAU center Whitney Collins pulled down a team-high 12. As a team, the Lady Panthers shot 40 percent (21-of-52) from the field while Lemoyne-Owen finished at 37 percent (22-of-57) shooting. Clark Atlanta (3-4, SIAC 0-1) will host Stillman College Monday, Jan. 5 @ 6 p.m., in Epps Gymnasium.
