Box Score Orangeburg, S.C. --- Despite holding the lead for a large portion of the game, the Clark Atlanta University Panthers fell in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play Thursday night at Claflin University, 72-67. Derek Harper scored 21 for the CAU Panthers, while Najee Whitehead added 20 of his own. Arthur Talley led the Panthers of Claflin with 19 points.
In a game that saw 14 lead changes in total, neither team was able to take full control of the game. The advantage that Claflin was able to gain in points in the paint (34-to-14), Clark Atlanta was able to erase with their three point shooting (45.0 %). CAU (3-12, 2-6 SIAC) held a two-point lead with 5:29 remaining in the game, but then watched as Claflin went on a 20-11 run to finish the game.
The Panthers of Claflin were able to score 23 points off of 19 CAU turnovers, which ultimately gave them the margin that they needed. Clark Atlanta was only able to manage 11 points off of 12 CU turnovers.
The Panthers of CAU return to action as they play host to SIAC foe Paine College on Monday, January 26th, at Epps Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM. The Clark Atlanta University athletic department will be honoring all of it's scholar-athletes during the game.
