Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga.---The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers were impressive at the plate after a double-header sweep of non-conference opponent Edward Waters College 12-3 and 14-10 at Home Saturday.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind Taylor Solomon's two-run shot after the first inning in game one, but could not muster another run thereafter. CAU's bats were rocking led by senior catcher Alia Williams who finished 4-4 at the plate with four runs scored, five RBIs and back-to-back homeruns including one walk-off three-run blast that gave the Lady Panthers a nine-point advantage to end the game after five innings. Designated player Tenicia Winston contributed three RBIs on 2-of-2 from the plate and four runs scored.
In game two, Edward Waters held an 8-7 lead through four innings until Clark Atlanta (19-17, SIAC 13-11) added three runs in the fifth for a 10-9 lead. With four runs in the sixth innings, the Lady Panthers held on the lead for the win. Third baseman Breanna Bailey knocked in five RBIs on 3-of-5 from the plate to the lead CAU. Williams and Winston combined for seven of the team's total 14 runs in game two while freshman pitcher Brittany Gonzalez picked up two wins for the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers have won five of their last six games including three of four conference games. After's Friday's split with Benedict College, CAU remains in third place in the SIAC East Division.
Next, the Lady Panthers will host conference foe Albany State Monday, April 7, at 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. All CAU HOME games are played at the Lady Panthers Softball Field.
