Box Score 4 Orangeburg, S.C.---The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers softball team finished 1-3 in a four-game road swing after a double-header loss to Claflin University 8-2 and 10-2 and splitting two games against Benedict College with a 9-5 victory and a 12-6 loss Wednesday and Thursday.
Clark Atlanta (14-16, SIAC 10-9) could not find its offensive rhythm as a team against Claflin and only produced four runs collectively in both games. Claflin jumped out early in game two with a pair of homeruns and never looked back. Despite the losses, senior Alia Williams was impressive behind the plate in both games going 5-for-6 with a homerun, a triple, two doubles, four runs and 3 RBIs.
In game one against Benedict, the Lady Panthers scored five runs in the first innings behind a couple of homeruns from Breanna Bailey who smacked a two-run shot and Barbara Goodwin who knocked in a solo blast. CAU added three more runs in the sixth inning to hold on for the win. In addition to a homerun, Bailey's hitting frenzy led CAU in both games against Benedict with three doubles, 5 RBIs, and four runs scored while finishing 6-for-8 at the plate.
Next, the Lady Panthers will host Benedict in a HOME double-header Saturday, March 29, at 2pm and 4 pm. All CAU softball games are played at the Lady Panthers softball field.
