Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga.--Freshman BreAnna Bailey led Clark Atlanta University at the plate going 8-for-9 including a solo blast in game two as the Lady Panthers downed Fort Valley State University 9-8 and 13-11 in softball action at HOME Saturday.
The Lady Panthers put up a fierce rally in the sixth inning of both games as they trailed through five innings. CAU held a 3-0 lead in game one before Fort Valley answered with four runs in the fifth for a 5-3 lead. Asia Nelson's two-run single in the sixth helped CAU produced four runs in the inning that knotted the game at eight. It was three and out for the Lady Wildcats in the final inning. Centerfielder Alia Williams led off the seventh for Clark Atlanta with a double that put the Lady Panthers in scoring position.Bailey, who was hitting in the clean up spot, knocked in the game-winning run with her second double of the game to give the Lady Panthers the win. Starting pitcher Brittany Gonzalez picked up her third win on the mound.
Game two was the much the same for CAU (4-3, SIAC 2-0) who produced five runs in the sixth behind Gonzalez who smacked a two-run single and recorded two stolen bases. Those runs propelled Clark Atlanta to a 13-9 lead that they would not relinquish despite giving up two additional runs in the seventh inning. Bailey's impressive performance at the plate included a solo homerun, two doubles and three RBIs. Senior Barbara Goodwin gets her first win on the season.
Next, Clark Atlanta will host Wesleyan College Tuesday, Feb. 25th, @ 4 p.m., at the Lady Panthers Softball Field. Admission is FREE.
