Box Score Atlanta, Ga. ---Defense was the name of the game for the Lady Panthers as they beat the Georgia Regents - Augusta Jaguars 73-59 on Saturday afternoon in Epps Gymnasium. The Lady Panthers recorded season highs with 28 forced turnovers and 15 steals. The Lady Panthers were led on the offensive side of the ball by Sydni Davis who contributed 24 points, a season high for her. Georgia Regents was led by Camille Gee who put 15 points on the board.
The Lady Panthers were led on the defensive side of the ball by Iyana Spatcher, who recorded sevens steals and one block. The strong defensive effort overall led to production on the offensive side of the ball, allowing the Lady Panthers to take a 12 point edge in points off turnovers (25-to-13). In addition, the Lady panthers held a 24-0 advantage in fast break points.
The Jaguars were able to open up a nine point lead halfway through the first half, but the Lady Panthers would soon storm back. A 22 to 8 run over the remainder of the half gave the Lady Panthers the lead at halftime. A 12 to 4 run to open the second half gave the Lady Panthers all the lead they would need to finish out the game. The Jaguars were not able to pull any closer than an eight point difference the rest of the way.
The Lady Panthers travel to Selma, Alabama to face off with Selma University this Monday, December 15th. Tip-off is set for 6 pm local time. The Lady Panthers return home after the holidays as they face off with the Lemoyne-Owen College Magicians on January 3rd. Game time is set for 2 pm, with the men's game following immediately after.
