Box Score Birmingham, Ala.---The Clark Atlanta University men's basketball team dropped a 92-69 decision on the road in a preseason exhibition game against Samford University Saturday.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead as Clark Atlanta struggled to maintain possession of the ball on the offensive end. Samford cruised to a 45-33 halftime lead and led by as many as 20 in the period. Clark Atlanta seemed to settle better on offense to open the second period and cut Samford's lead to nine points, but that would be as close as the Panthers would get for the remainder of the game.
Senior Earl Lawrence led the Panthers with a team-high 17 points, five assists and two steals followed by Cornell Barnett who chipped in 13 points and six rebounds and Johnell Young who provided an offensive spark off the bench with 10. CAU shot 32 percent from the field while also hitting 19 percent from behind the arc. The Bulldogs dominated the paint with 46 points inside while shooting 57 percent from the floor and scored 30 points off 22 Clark Atlanta turnovers.
Next, the Panthers will host Rollins College, Florida Tech and Paine College in the NCAA Division II South Region Tip-Off Classic to be held Friday, Nov. 14th, at 5 and 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 15th, at 2Â and 4 p.m., in Epps Gymnasium. Please visit our website at
