Lady Panthers Steam Roll to Eighth Consecutive Win

Freshman Jasmine Ramey Smacks Her First Career Homerun

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga.--Clark Atlanta University's bats were on fire as the Lady Panthers powered three homeruns in a non-conference sweep of Edward Waters College 5-4 and 11-1, at the CAU Softball Field on the way to their eighth consecutive win Tuesday.

Junior Amari Foster smothered her team leading ninth homerun to lead off the Lady Panthers in the first inning. With her first career homerun, freshman Jasmine Ramey's solo shot over the left center fence along with Foster's second run knotted the game at three to end the second inning.  Edward Waters would then add one run in third to hold a 4-3 lead through three innings until senior Kynesha Gibson's two-run double gave the Lady Panthers a 5-4 advantage in the sixth inning that would eventually be the game-winning runs as their defense held strong in the top of the seventh for the win. Ramey, who went 2-for-3 from the plate, finished with a double, two runs scored and one RBI to lead the Lady Panthers. CAU pitcher Barbara Goodwin picked up her 10th win while Nicolette Anderson added her eighth victory on the mound in game two.

It was all CAU in the second game as the Lady Panthers exploded to a 9-0 first inning lead capped by junior Alia Williams' second-career grandslam. Williams, who recorded four RBIs, was perfect from the plate on four appearances with two doubles and a single to go along with her eighth homerun.  Gibson's one-run single in the fourth inning gave her two RBIs in this game as she also was also perfect at the plate (2-for-2).

With the two wins, Clark Atlanta improved to 19-15 overall and will host conference foe Fort Valley State Wednesday, April 3, in a
3 p.m., single seven-inning game at the CAU Softball Field. This is a make-up game to replace the second game of a double-header March 2nd, that was cancelled due to snow. The Lady Wildcats topped CAU 10-6 in the first game.
