Clark Atlanta Bounced from SIAC Softball Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hampton, Ga.---After a 15-7 loss to #1W Miles College in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball ChampionshipTournament Saturday ushered the #3E Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers to the loser bracket, the victory to stay alive was hard to come by as they faltered against #1E Albany State University 11-2 in the elimination game at Gerald Matthews Sports Complex in Hampton, Ga.

Giving up five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Miles proved to be costly for the Lady Panthers after muscling their way to within three points of the lead in that inning behind Amari Foster's two-run blast that added to her four total RBIs in the game. While the bats were cracking in the first game, CAU had a difficult time connecting against Albany State and managed only four total hits two of which were first inning homers by junior Alia Williams and freshman Zhandria Usher. With a glimmer of hope at the top of the fifth, the Lady Panthers saw their chances to get on the board again diminish as they squandered two opportunities to drive in runs with the bases loaded. Albany State confirmed the win with a three-run shot to end the game in six.

Foster, who was selected to the SIAC All-Tournament team, led the Lady Panthers with a total of nine RBIs, three homeruns, and eight runs scored on 9-of-13 from the plate in the tournament. CAU, who finished the season with a  23-20 overall record, advanced to the quarterfinals with victories over #6W Lane (20-1) and #2 Claflin (15-1) Thursday.
