Box Score 4 Atlanta, Ga.---After a hitting slump led to three consecutive losses for the Clark Atlanta University softball team to Claflin University
(7-5 and 9-6) and Benedict College 10-3 in game one, the bats came alive as the Lady Panthers finished their six-game road swing with three wins inlcuding a two-game sweep of Paine College (14-5 and 10-2) Saturday.
The Lady Panthers exploded to a first inning five-run lead in game two against Benedict, before the Lady Tigers tied the game at 5 in the fourth. With a 7-6 lead at the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, Benedict's Jasmine Sledge hit a solo shot to left field to send the game into extra innings. Centerfielder Alia Williams' one run double got things going for CAU as it took a slim 8-7 lead. But with five hits and seven other runs scored in the eighth inning, the Lady Panthers swormed Benedict as they increased the lead to 15-7 for the win in game two. Senior short stop Alexis Baity led Clark Atlanta at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Pitcher Barbara Goodwin, who threw six complete games, cracked a fourth-inning grandslam over the left field fence that propelled the Lady Panthers to their first of two wins against Paine. Williams finished with a team-high 12 RBIs, nine runs scored, four doubles and one homerun during the six-game stretch.
Next, the Lady Panthers (8-10, SIAC 3-6) will first travel to Albany State Tuesday, March 12, for a 1 p.m., double-header then to the SIAC Cross-Over Tournament which will be held March 14-16 in Jasper, Alabama.
