Lady Panthers Split Two Games with Kentucky State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga.—A game two scoring frenzy led to the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers 13-11 win over Kentucky State University after dropping game one, 2-1, in a softball double-header at home Wednesday.

Through four innings of game two, the Lady Panthers enjoyed a comfortable 10-3 lead until Kentucky State’s three-run homerun in the fourth inning closed the gap. But infielder Barbara Goodwin answered with her second homerun on the season that drove in three runs for the Lady Panthers and extended their lead to 13-7. Despite adding four runs in the sixth inning, CAU’s lead was too great for the Thorobreds to overcome.

Nicolette Anderson picked up her third win this season while Goodwin added her first save with two innings of work on the mound. Centerfielder Alia Williams was huge at the plate for the Lady Panthers as she smashed two triples to along with six RBIs.

In game one, Kentucky State (4-9) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, before Williams’ RBI single put the Lady Panthers on the board. After leaving 10 runners on base, CAU could not produce any more runs.

Next, the Lady Panthers (5-4) will host SIAC East Divisional opponent Fort Valley State Saturday,
March 2, at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
